January 2015 Loot Crate Unboxing!

It has finally arrived! The first Loot Crate of 2015 and this months box is a doozy filled with all kinds of super-sweet merchandise. For those not in the know, Loot Crate is a subscription based service in which every month you receive a black shoebox full of a random pop culture related memorabilia.

Here is this months contents:

VOLTRON T-SHIRT: I can't say that I have ever gotten into the Voltron cartoon series. It was always a little to Japaneses for my taste. However ever since Pacific Rim came out I've turned into a really big fan of gigantic Japanese robots smashing shit. Perhaps I should give the show a second shot? I probably should.

Side Note: Remember the buildup to the Cloverfield film? That super sweet teaser that played before the first Transformers film (if memory serves me correctly). Nobody knew exactly what the movie was going to be about and it lead to wild speculation... my favorite theory was that it was actually going to be a Voltron film shot gorilla / handheld style.

That was easily my favorite of all the early Cloverfield theories. It would have been such a cool concept to see a monster movie from the point of view of these characters on the ground and then all of a sudden gigantic fucking robots show up to fight it off. That needs to happen. Someone make that film! Kevin Smith, I am looking in your direction.

8-BIT SUNGLASSES, COMIC NOTEBOOK, JANUARY PIN AND CATALOG: The fine folks over at Loot Crate do a really good job of finding stuff that you never really knew you wanted until you own them. What in the world am I going to do with those 8-Bit looking sunglasses? Absolutely nothing, that is what! I would be far to embarrassed to actually wear them outside but they'll look great on a shelf someplace.

Every month Loot Crate includes a collectors pin. It's a fun little touch. I've been meaning to get some sort of scrapbook or something to put mine into. At the very bottom of this pile is a simple little catalog with a few articles and choice words about all stuff included in this months package.

The Comic Notebook is an interesting little oddity. A pocked sized notebook, broke down into blank comic book panels. You may write or draw whatever you heart desires into those spaces. If only I was artistic, I could put this thing to some serious use!

10-DOH! FIGURE, BLACK TIE GEEK TIE: I don't ever really wear ties but assuming for a moment that I did.... holy shit a Space Invaders themed tie! I still have quite a bit of nostalgia for the old Atari franchises. And if you can weed through most of the crap that Atari has done in recent years, you can still find superb updated versions of these classic titles. Space Invaders Extreme is one of the PSP's best titles. If you ever get a chance, play it.

One of my favorite items in this months package is the Back to the Future inspired 10-Doh! figure. I've seen these little NES cart figures online before and wanted to purchase a few of them but for whatever reason... just sort of forgot. Now that I own one, it is a safe bet that I will end up with the entire line. Well played Loot Crate. Well played.

STAR WARS #1: This is what it is all about, folks. I can think of no better way to kick off 2015 than with Marvel's Star Wars Issue Number One. I know lots of folks are (still) up in arms over Disney canceling out all the prior Star Wars Extended Universe material... but honestly, I am glad they are doing a soft reboot of the franchise.

So much stuff got written and published over the years that it became next to impossible to figure out what was cannon and what wasn't. Even with the different levels of cannon, things just got confusing. If you are looking to get into the new Star Wars Universe stuff, no better place to start that with this comic book right here!

Welcome to 2015!

Happy Holidays? Opps. Christmas is over and I sort of forgot to write about it. 2014 was a weird season for me, I went from being temporarily unemployed to back in the work environment in early November. That basically zapped most of my holiday season.

Not that I had much holiday spirit to begin with. Something about this year just didn't click for me. Usually I am sitting here typing up posts about how fast the holidays went and how I'd love to roll the clock back a couple weeks and indulge in the seasons sights and sounds all over again.

This year? Not even the slightest inkling of those feelings. Honestly, I am glad to see the stores move on from the season. I really am. Bring on something different and something new. Whatever junk happens between now and Halloween 2015 is exactly what I want to write about before finding the proper motivation to tackle the next holiday season.

In other news, I purchased a Nintendo Wii U a few days ago. Expect the next article that I publish to be all about that system (and how great it is!).

See you all soon!
